ORTeens General Manager
Mahesh Robinson (‘Magz’)
Mahesh Robinson’s (Magz) personal life experiences and challenges have forged his resilience and resourcefulness characteristics into becoming a flexible and open minded person.
Magz has had a very diverse childhood and education, as he was born and brought up by his Mother and Father along with his three siblings in the slums of Andheri, Mumbai, India.
Within the confines of their small home, surrounded by a struggling community with inadequate sanitation facilities and a sewerage gutter outside their doorstep, Magz’s strong family bond blossomed despite the challenges, offering relief during such hardship.
His father had various daily jobs, ranging from selling bread during the day and peanuts on the street at night. This commitment by Magz’s father to meeting the challenges of daily life and providing for his family is where Magz’s powerful work ethic and adaptability stemmed from at such a young age.
Tragedy struck Magz at the tender age of seven when his father passed away, leaving a void in their family dynamic that seemed unbeatable. The family responsibility fell on Magz’s shoulders, leading him to find work both before and after school working on a local farm to earn a small amount of money to help support his Mother and Siblings.
Despite Magz’s resilience and significant hard work, the family struggles were too great and Magz was placed in an orphanage along with his siblings at a young age. This new lifestyle introduced a unique set of experiences and challenges.
In a world of uncertainty, his life took a profound turn when he found a new home through adoption by a British family at the age of 12. From a place of longing, he was fortunate to be found by warmth and love. The change brought challenges and discoveries, adapting to a new culture and creating a tapestry of experiences that shaped the unique chapters of his life. Through resilience and the support of his new found family, he was able to build a home in a foreign land, weaving a narrative of courage, acceptance, and belonging.
He attended a British boarding School for the rest of his education. He was motivated by curiosity and exploration and navigated through classrooms, absorbing knowledge and forging connections. The chapters of his academic story were marked by challenges which, in retrospect, were an advantage to building him into the person he is today. Whether in lecture halls, libraries, or labs, he had dedicated himself to the pursuit of learning, shaping his understanding and character along the way.
Magz has many years experience in Cubs, Scouts and Explorers which have helped him understand the skills required to become a problem solver, thinking on his feet and taking control of groups or situations where a leadership role is required.
Magz is a strong believer in Teamwork and he likes to motivate the people he works with, making sure their best qualities are developed and always available. Communication is one of his strongest qualities and he believes it is important to find different ways to communicate effectively, because every person responds differently to discussions.
In Magz’s younger days he chose to do voluntary work because he felt that it was his way to share his personality and experience with others. He has worked in the Outdoor Industry for the majority of his career and each year progressing within the companies he has worked with, to becoming a leader and managing teams of people.
Magz decided to challenge himself and accept a role working on cruise ships with the P&O Edge activity program from 2016-2023. He chose to take on this role because it was an experience, which in his opinion, could broaden his views and life experience. Working on cruise ships taught him new work ethics in a fast and diverse environment. The ships were filled with a wide range of cultures, nationalities, long work hours, fast paced environments and always throwing a new challenge his way.
He is an enthusiastic and committed team player. He likes to challenge himself with new experiences and find enjoyment in everything he does.
We are so glad to have Magz working with us on this important and significant project, aiming to inspire and motivate young teens.
