Uplifting story to inspire and get the participants in a positive mindset for facing challenges and building my “optimistic resilience plan” for life
2. The Wheelchair Challenge Course and instructions (Break down barriers, physical and attitudinal)
Learning how to get around in a wheelchair from the experts, Incredible people with lived experiences with disability
3. Experiencing the travel journey with surprise impairments between New Farm, City and Kangaroo Point (Kitty Kat & City Cat)
Marine travel activities throughout the day with surprise impairments cultivate a deeper understanding, fostering empathy for the challenges others encounter as part of their daily lives and promote a commitment to creating more inclusive environments. (Surprise elements Blindfolded, Wheelchairs and Companion Activities)
4. Kayaking a natural journey along the Brisbane River between the Historical Naval Stores 1887 & the Story Bridge 1940
This group activity of kayaking positively influences mental health through physical exercise, connection with nature, social interaction, mindfulness, a sense of achievement, and emotional regulation. It offers a holistic approach to well-being, addressing both physical and mental aspects, and can be a valuable component of a healthy lifestyle.
5. Kangaroo Point / Story Bridge Parkland lunch
Included is a working lunch that caters for all dietary requirements – Solitude breakout for Gratitude exercise
6. Step over the Brisbane Powerhouse wall, 17m above ground level whilst harnessed and seated in mid-air at Vertigo Restaurant writing my 'Optimistic Resilience Plan'
Engaging in this mindful practice while writing my “Optimistic Resilience Plan” in this unfamiliar, uncomfortable, and scary environment contributes significantly to the development of a memorable and poignant plan for the future. This activity encourages self-reflection and positive visualization, fostering a resilient perspective that can adapt to discomfort. This process helps participants embrace the uncertainty of an unfamiliar environment, cultivating the ability to find strength and optimism even in challenging situations. By combining mindfulness with forward-thinking and intentional planning, individuals can enhance their capacity to endure and thrive in the face of adversity, ultimately contributing to the start of the development of their personal optimistic resilience plan for life.
7. Surprise - Drop Line Experience during the writing process
Stepping off a 17-metre-high platform with an automatic belay line is a metaphorical and experiential journey that mirrors the challenges of life. It involves confronting fears, building trust, coping with discomfort, adapting to uncertainty, cultivating courage, celebrating success, and learning from the overall experience. Participants significantly enhance their resilience, better equipping themselves to navigate the complexities of life with courage and adaptability.
8. Rock Climbing or Abseil at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs
Rock climbing and Abseiling at Kangaroo Point offers teens a multifaceted development opportunity, aligning with the STORM framework. It enhances physical fitness, problem-solving skills, and resilience, crucial for life's challenges. The activity encourages social interaction and a connection with nature, providing a supportive environment for personal growth and skill development. While it comes with inherent risks like safety and the fear of heights, these can be mitigated with proper precautions. Overall, rock climbing and abseiling serves as an excellent metaphor for life, teaching teens to strategize, overcome obstacles, and build the mental and physical toughness needed for future challenges.
9. Water Bike Challenge - Building and Riding Water Bikes on the Brisbane River
The Water Bike Challenge, which involves building and riding water bikes on the Brisbane River, offers a unique blend of educational and recreational benefits for teens, adhering to the STORM framework. It promotes innovative thinking and engineering skills during the building process, while the act of riding enhances physical coordination and balance. The challenge presents a platform for teamwork and strategy, as teens work together to navigate the waters. The risks involved, such as managing water safety and the unpredictability of river currents, teach risk assessment and the importance of safety measures. This experience motivates teens through the excitement of water sports and the satisfaction of successfully constructing a functional water bike, equipping them with practical knowledge and a sense of achievement that parallels the challenges they will encounter in life.
10. Mindful and Focus Nature Connection for STORM my personal inspiration journal (Strong, Talented, Optimistic, Resilient me)
Finding a quiet space to minimise distractions, allowing for deeper reflection and a more profound connection with one's thoughts and feelings. The solitude promotes mindfulness, encouraging a present state of mind which can lead to clearer, more focused, optimistic, resilience plan (STORM my personal inspiration journal)
Third Day Advanced Program Options - Your choice of Walkabout Creek Adventures OR Tangalooma Island Resort
Adding a third day to the ORTeens program with the STORM App enriches student experiences in Australia's natural landscapes. Walkabout Creek, set amongst bushland and waterways, is perfect for learning about environmental conservation. Here, students engage with nature, deepening their understanding of ecosystems.
Alternatively, Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island offers a unique marine perspective. Students can discover marine life and ecosystems in this idyllic setting with crystal waters and sandy beaches.
To complement these venues, we've included three adventure activities that provide hands-on challenges and foster a deeper connection with the environment.
With additional time for the STORM App, students benefit from a well-rounded experience that merges adventure with environmental learning and personal development
